Hey guys, welcome back. If you wondered where I've been, don't worry too much. I just had a lot of stuff transpire since the Top 100 and when I was working on the Top 100, I burnt out momentarily. My Top 100 of 2020

Hello guys and welcome back to my biggest year-end post yet. As we know, I always have to get to my Top 100 so this year will be no different. With the formula I've implemented since I started blogging, for the most part, this seems very accurate. All that aside, this year was where my horizons expanded, opening up to more artists and genres over time. This year I feel like was much easier to decide what was good and not compared to last year. In terms of chart performance, it was much more contained than last year's. If you don't what I mean, 2019's year of personal charters consisted of 272 songs. This year it was a mere 197, almost 80 less. Stakes were much much higher than it would take an average of 500 more points to get on this year's year-end as compared to 2019. What this also shows is that 2020 personally for me, consisting of great music and longevity that came with it. Let us start this anyway, depends on when your reading this post, everything may not be up as I'm doing this over the time left in 2020. Anyways here is what each entrant will consist of:

This song in terms of composition is very straightforward and consistent, especially in production. No samples as opposed to My Head & My Heart, nor are their very surprising parts like in Kings & Queens or Who’s Laughing Now. Now sure, having these elements can be helpful, but sometimes simple is the way to go. In this song, Ava Max showcased the simplicity that can be pop music and made it work very well.

24. Yung Bae/bbno$/Wiz Khalifa/MAX- Bad Boy

Mind you this technically can be called a remix as the original doesn’t consist of the latter two artists. Nevertheless, the composition, flow, production, and vocals all fit well. Yung Bae makes the production to where it utilizes Wiz Khalifa’s and bbno$’s flows very great, two artists who haven’t been in the light for a bit at the time. MAX doesn’t contribute too much, rather he kinda covers the bridge by belting notes, which is fine by me.

23. Ava Max/Lauv/Saweetie- Kings & Queens, Pt. 2

Ava Max continues to impress despite being “the most basic artist pop music has seen for a while”. I mean, she’s obviously succeeding with this song being arguably her best yet. Everything seems great, with the lyrics and vocals seeming to be very well done and blended. Then there’s a guitar riff which is the last thing to expect from an Ava Max song. I mean damn, there’s a lot of elements thrown into this song, and she goes further to bring on two very outstanding artists, Lauv & Saweetie. Both add many more elements, especially the fact that this song was just missing male vocals. Saweetie brings in a rap element and my god, her verse and the production and changes made to it are beautiful. Expect part 2 to make a run for next year’s year-end, because it’s highly on track.

22. blackbear- queen of broken hearts

Pretty interesting entrant here, and honestly I’m surprised that blackbear would end up this high on my year-end. Nevertheless, this song really hit me by surprise and it shows that blackbear has been getting better over time. The hook is what sells it the best as they layered his vocals with a hint of autotune, the production flows and blackbear is able to very consistent. The thing blackbear seemed to be missing in his song is consistency and a bit of simplicity. Hot girl bummer was one of the hugest flops on my chart, me & ur ghost was very underwhelming along with that. I think we really got blackbear mix with the rest of the composition of the song, which laid out a very good setup.

21. Galantis/Ship Wrek/Pink Sweat$- Only A Fool

Galantis went from missing the Top 100 entirely last year with Bones to notching what is in my opinion the best song from them ever. Along with that, they bring along Ship Wrek and rising artist Pink Sweat$. This song is very well done and produced, and this shows that Galantis is flexible when it comes to producing music. I say this due to the fact the Pink Sweat$ offers beautiful and melodic vocals, that for an electronic song, would likely have had a much slower tempo and been more in the deep house range of subgenres. However, Galantis amazingly pulls off the fact that they make it a progressive type of song, which amazes me and further shows the chemistry that all had with this song.

20. SZA/Justin Timberlake- The Other Side

JT’s shot at redemption for a good Trolls cover soundtrack worked, tremendously too if I must say. I mean everything here seems so smooth, especially transitioning from chorus to singer, chorus to singer it’s just amazing. SZA has amazing vocals and is able to work with the beat and Justin Timberlake channels more of an R&B vibe with his voice. As compared to CAN’T STOP THE FEELING, this song seems much more processed and composed, not so much of an in your face, happy anthem, rather it tends to kick back and feels like more effort was thrown into it. I feel this song deserved a lot more for it because these two artists did one hell of a job.

19. Lost Frequencies/Mathieu Koss- Don't Leave Me Now

Lost Frequencies has always been a producer that’s been out there, but never has really impressed me, until this. I mean this song had a pretty fair shot for greatest until a certain song blocked it (we’ll get into that later). This song was very nice but had a huge sense of relaxation. Koss has an amazing voice, and Lost Frequencies’s very chill, laidback production makes the song feel complete and whole. This is the definition of a summer song in the realm of electronic music, so I know I couldn’t pass this one up.

18. Don Diablo- Inside My Head (Voices)

Sure, this may not be the best song of his long term (that would be We Are Love), but this song is one I can handle. An insane hook, build-up, and drop that is able to fuel the song for its full tenure. I mean, this one of few non-vocal songs on this chart, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be great.

17. Charlie Puth/blackbear- Hard On Yourself

Charlie Puth was very quiet this year in terms of music, and honestly, this song was all I could remember of his. I remember hearing him tease this on his TikTok and from what I heard, it was bound to be good. Then I found the full piece, and it really was amazing. Charlie is able to feel and make himself and his vocals sound independent and to his liking, and blackbear is just a complement to this song. This also showcases blackbear’s case of improvement in the music industry over time. Everything works well here as these two seem to have surprising yet amazing chemistry. What also amazes me is that Charlie doesn’t even sound like he’s trying to sing in this song, he doesn’t do anything too crazy, no falsettos runs, none of that seems too present here, and the fact it sounds this good is bizarre.

16. Dua Lipa/DaBaby- Levitating (Remix)

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t pick up the original on the release on the album, because #1 talks would’ve been great for it. Nevertheless, 13 weeks and manages to just miss the Top 15, not bad at all. This song gets me stuck between the past and future, as it sounds futuristic, but at the same time gives off the 80s vibe, wait, nevermind that’s why her album’s called Future Nostalgia. Anyway, yeah let’s start off with DaBaby’s introduction which honestly sets off a huge tone for the song. Dua Lipa has a great flow here and honestly, seems to spit faster than DaBaby on this track. DaBaby’s part just further complements the song, which was surprisingly a stronger part of the track. The bridge, pre-chorus, hook, and chorus all transition very well and make this song sound spectacular.

15. Connor Bvrns- Innocence

Nevertheless, Connor’s voice is amazing, and I can’t lie about that production, it’s amazing. I mean the hook is tremendously good, and for a very unknown artist, this man has a hit for me. I recommend hearing this song, because this one took me by surprise and so did he with the charts, looking for a #1 on the weekly chart.

However, what seems to get is the transitioning and production, one that was executed so well, it feels fresher every time you play this song. Too bad Forever Yours was present throughout the majority of its peak because this song definitely would’ve been Top 5.

13. Tiësto/GALXARA- Round & Round

I was really early to catch this one off the album, let alone the whole album, apparently 50,000 streams early, I’ll take it. Anyway, this song is no doubt the best song off this album. The main concern among a majority would be the vocals, but Tiësto has been known to work with vocals like this before. He does a really great job on the production, with a looping build-up and drop. I like how he adjusts GALXARA’s vocals especially in the chorus, to give that almost spinning feeling, It’s not a drop you’d want from Tiësto, but it really does a good job. Also from this song on, this seems to be the powerhouse hits of the year. I say this because the earliest there was a jump of 5000 points or more in 2019, was between numbers 3 and 4.

Martin Garrix tends to show out the slower and more melodic side of his production, making it progressive at the same time. Clinton Kane has very nice vocals, and while his independent singles aren’t the best, his chemistry works very well with someone like Martin Garrix, who definitely can be an EDM vocalist.

Another underperformed song on hit charts makes a high appearance on mine, what's new. Anyway, this song is something special Joel Corry is a really good producer with a lot of potential. MNEK has always been in the EDM scene for a while and this just shows he's a very good artist overall. The chemistry between these two is amazing and wish to see more from both.

Now as tradition has been I will now show you the Top 10 of last year before finishing up the Top 100 of 2020. These last 10 songs I will induct into this year-end chart will consist of an introduction with the deepest analysis I have to offer. However the Top 10 of 2019:

Well, this song got screwed over big time, being in #1 conversations for this year and last year, only if it debuted a bit later or earlier. Nevertheless, this song still lives on at #10...

#9 goes to my artists of the year, Niall Horan. The man has many hits and this one was the one to spark his miraculous journey.

Yeah, the last two songs to crossover years stop here, with Nice to meet ya. This song is something special and different for Niall as he seems to step out of the slow, piano ballad theme for what seemed to be good. Honestly, this is a song with a huge I don’t care feel to it, but at the same time, Niall presents this song as a chase for someone he’s just met. The song gives you a decisive state of mind, whether to chill out and hold back or go forward with it. Overall, the sampling Niall experimented with worked heavily in his favor. He seems very comfortable in this song and makes the song feel comfortable which made this very appealing. Props to this man for making such a banger of a hit that deserved a lot more attention.

This song burst out onto the scene from the start and though it took a bit to reach the top, it ended up claiming it for a bit and some more here and there...

This song reminds me a lot of Avicii. Apparently, this song was in the works for years since Avicii used this as a teaser for what would become Friend Of Mine arguably the best song off of AVICI 01. Despite the backstory, this song is just magical if I had to describe it. The singer, whoever it is, has an immaculate voice for one that sounds like a bluegrass singer. I mean, this song is just so special to me and hits me in the heart every time. The drop is what really gets and the vocals the man puts in the chorus are just beautiful, enough to make a grown man cry. If you let the song take you and vibe with you, it gives a sense of power and independence. This song’s lyrics explain how one cannot be broken down no matter what and they’ll track all they can to get rid of these problems. I’d call this an anthem if I must. Magical composition by two very unknown produces and boy did they hit me with such a song.

Yeah so uh this is a pretty interesting entrant this high. I mean this song has so much more than what you think, the feels it gives off to one tends to be very laid back and comfortable. You know it’s a song that you really don’t have to adjust to, rather it really adjusts to you. Makes sense considering it’s prime winter weather where I live and it still is on the chart. I mean, Lennon Stella has a sense of ease in her voice when she sings, barely trying to do anything crazy. Charlie is able to pull off what he did in Hard On Yourself 100 times better in this one. To be honest, this song was more delightful than anything and had everything a summer song could ask for. Even for a SCOOBY-DOO soundtrack, this went really hard.

This is probably the most interesting song this high up. I mean exploring new genres of music led me to this song, and boy was it a real good one...

Honestly, I know like 99 percent of you guys reading this haven’t listened to it, please do. I mean this song is something that normally I wouldn’t like, but British rap like this seems to be appealing. No, it’s not hardcore British rap drills with an annoying ass beat and stuff, rather it seems to be much more poppy and energetic rather than brass and messy. An underappreciated Mabel has great vocals and keeps the energy and transitioning going throughout the song. AJ Tracey does amazingly well, which is good because AJ Tracey was decent until this. I know this song is a freestyle of all sorts, but this is one I can live with. It almost sounds like a more controlled Eminem spit. Honestly, this song will continue to thrive because man it slaps every time.

Yeah, this song proved Niall Horan is practically over sad, piano ballads and you see the evolution of his writing over time. From sad ballads over a girl to being decisive about her to then kicking back and saying come to me, we’re all good. This song is Summer Feelings and much more. It has the elements of a summery, but here more tropical beat. Niall Horan is much more at ease with the song’s composition and is very smooth when he sings, and tries absolutely nothing crazy. Hell, there’s the element of being comfortable, but those lyrics literally spell the word comfortable, which is the point of the song. I mean the song is the greatest #2-peaking song to grace this chart. I understand that this underperformed a bit, but nevertheless, the longevity and wavelength of this song's road is extreme but impressive.

Yeah, I don't know whether having this song this high is a compliment or insult.

4. Brooks/Julian Jordan- Without You

Um, that’ll be a tough one to explain. Let’s see I mean this song is probably a sign with the most obnoxious personality to it, but that Brooks styles. I think what really boosts it that it incorporates many elements from the #1 of 2019, Better When You’re Gone, which Brooks was on. All that aside I like the build-up, energy, and especially that drop. The song screams insanity and raving, but it’s 2020 what can we do, rave in our homes. I mean, I would blast this if I had the chance. The song is just one that comes at you, and one that catches you off guard. The composition set up by these two producers are amazing and I hope they continue to impress me.

This had such potential to be the song of the summer in general...

I know this isn’t the most famous one in the modern world, so it ironically gets to be the best Jonas Brothers song I’ve ever heard. The song screams summer, especially when the JoBros include the clever Latin elements in it. However, there’s an element where they add a lot of pop-rock in theorem washing the production down a bit, but being able to fit all the pieces in pretty well. One main thing is transitioning and this song has insane transitioning from Nick’s great verse to Joe’s falsetto. Kevin does a tremendous job on the production with the guitar. Then comes, Karol G who speeds up and flares the song even more which results in a well-built song that had a lot of success, and screamed summer to my ears.

This #2 was #1 until like mid-November before being taken by a certain song. Anyways, this song is a masterpiece and a nice send off to the greatest producer in history.

2. Kygo/Avicii/Sandro Cavazza- Forever Yours (Tribute)

What more can I ask for here? It’s almost like two different sides of EDM colliding with Kygo’s tropical view of things with Avicii’s house/progressive force come together to make this. I mean this song is angelic in itself as any tribute should be. Sandro is a complement to this song with his beautiful and it helps that he has worked with both of the artists before. Kygo does a great job being able to finish this up for the late Avicii and his production is very sincere and genuine in it’s a send-off to him. The trumpets and horns in the chorus and the way the production likes to fade in and out all play well overall. Sandro makes the hook 10 times better and he is just utilized so well by Kygo to make the song a whole and not incomplete. A beautiful send-off for one of the best.

This seems about right that this song out of songs hit #1 for me this year...

The title really does explain this year, doesn’t it? I mean like even beyond the title the song has so much to it. A very showy, department store, type beat, but it’s able just to blend so well and Niall’s voice sounds so immaculate. I mean the production is a bunch of things and to be honest, I can’t make out what exactly, but that production really is something different. Look no farther than the lyrics where Niall is trying to get back to the one he lost, where he knows where she is the one. He explains how much she was to him, and how everything will all go away and that she is his last chance, or at least feels like it. This song can almost be as begging, but Niall masquerades it with such an energetic, rather a happy production. This song really is, what is called a cover-up personality and I couldn’t pass that up. All the elements of sad lyrics and backstory, combined with the amazing and stout production make this song my favorite hit of the year. Congratulations Niall for making the best song of my year, beating out Better When You’re Gone 2019 tenure by 2000 points. That’s amazing.
